Legacies

Including a gift to Refugees at Home in your will is a simple process that will change lives and help us continue our work for years to come.

What will your legacy be? If you believe that no one seeking sanctuary in the UK should end up on the street, making a gift in your will means refugees and people seeking asylum can have a safe place to stay, and a chance to rebuild their lives.

Up until now, we were just trying to think about the next day, the next hour. And now, step by step, we can think to the future.

We will use your gift to help ensure that nobody fleeing war, conflict, or persecution faces homelessness in the UK. Thanks to your generosity, we can work towards a society drive by compassion and community that helps those in need have a welcoming, safe place to stay.

Wills are an important legal document and must be drafted and update with the support of professionals. That’s why we’ve partnered with Octopus Legacy, who are available to provide expert advice and guidance.

Here are few key points for to consider.

Benefits of a will:

  • You can make your wishes clear and known, so these can be carried out as you want them to
  • You can take care of your loved ones, and of what matters to you, in the way you choose to
  • You are giving yourself, and your loved ones, peace of mind, knowing your affairs are in order
  • You can leave an ensuring mark on the world, making a difference to others.

Writing or updating a simple will with Octopus Legacy is quick, safe, and free for our supporters.

Types of gifts

Making a gift in you will can take different forms:

A share of your estate

When you’ve decided what you’d like to leave to family and loved ones, you can donate a share (from 1-100%) of what is left. This is called a ‘residuary gift’.

A specific amount

If you want to leave a specific amount to Refugees at Home, you can list this amount in your will. This is called a ‘pecuniary gift’.

An item

You could also leave a specific item or ‘asset’, like property or shares. Refugees at Home can derive value from selling it, but the charity will incur the costs and burden of doing so.
